FTCE Florida ESOL K-12 Examination Information for Teacher Certification

Candidates can apply for a professional or temporary certification to be permitted to practice in the Florida State. Both certifications have different eligibility criteria which candidates have to meet before applying for the certification.

To appear for the FTCE English for Speakers of Other Languages Exam, candidate needs to fulfil the requirements listed by the education board. Both certifications require a bachelor degree and should submit a fingerprint report, to be processed by the board for the granting of certification. Professional certification candidates need to have specialization in the subject while temporary certification candidates are required to have a 2.5 GPA in the subject.

A professional certification is valid for five years is renewable.

A temporary certification is valid for only three years and is non-renewable. Educators would then have to apply for a professional certification.

The exam covers mostly techniques and principles in teaching English to non-English speakers. The FTCE English to Speakers of Other language Exam includes following topics:

• Acquisition theories of English language
• Socio and cultural theories for adapting English as a foreign language
• Curriculum and resources required for English language
• Instructional language
