Drama is an art which not only requires skill, talent and artistry but also requires passion. An educator aiming to become an instructor of drama must be familiar with the fundamentals of dramatics and be fond with the various forms of it. In the state of Florida, educators need to prove their competency first to the education board before having a career in teaching drama. The Florida Teacher Certification Exam (FTCE) is conducted by the Florida Department of Education (FLDOE) to give certification to qualified educators. Only then will educators be given the permission to practice in the Florida State.

Candidates can choose between a professional and temporary certification. A professional certification lasts for five academic years and may be renewed while the temporary certification lasts for only three academic years and is non-renewable. These certifications have different eligibility requirements and conditions which candidates need to fulfil before applying for the certification.

Qualifications for FTCE Florida Drama Examination

To appear for the FTCE Drama Exam, candidates need to fulfil the eligibility conditions listed by the board. These eligibility conditions also serve as minimum educational qualifications required for the certification.

• For professional certification- Candidates need to hold a bachelor degree and specialization in dramatics before applying for FLDOE certification.
• For temporary certification- Candidates need to have a 2.5 GPA in dramatics and a bachelor degree.

For both certifications, candidate is required to submit fingerprint reports to the board so as to be granted the certification.

FTCE Florida Drama Test Arrangement

The FTCE drama Exam is an objective type exam which requires candidates to prove their knowledge in the field. Hence candidate should study these topics thoroughly to perform well in the exam and get the certification. Topics included in FTCE Drama Exam are:-

• Acting
• Creative dramatics
• Theatre- production and designing
• Literature in dramatics
• History of theatre
• Directing
• Playwriting

FTCE Drama Exam contains multiple choice questions which have different formats. There are 120 objective questions in the FTCE Drama Exam with the following formats:

• Direct query
• Sequential query (line up the various elements in correct sequence)
• Graphical query
• Complete the sentence
• Situation analysis
• Commanding query

Candidates are given 150 minutes to attempt the FTCE Drama Exam. Candidate should practice well and consult a study guide for the exam before encountering the real exam.
