NYSTCE Secondary Assessment of Teaching Skills Exam grants authorization to educators who can pass the qualifying evaluation in any content area. Adequacy of the examinee’s knowledge will be assessed in the related subject in consideration of the education board’s policy and standards. One of the requirements to qualify in the exam as an accredited teacher is to obtain certifications from the administrative board. Several facilities are provided for registration via internet, mail or telephone (open only under emergency conditions for limited time and date).
NYSTCE Secondary Assessment of Teaching Skills Exam – Admission
Requirements for the exam include meeting all the eligibility criteria issued by the board like the fingerprinting clearance and attendance on Prevention of School Violence workshop and Child Abuse Identification workshop. He/ She must have completed the pedagogical coursework before applying for certification and must also be a bachelor degree holder from a national or state university.
NYSTCE Secondary Assessment of Teaching Skills Exam – Presentation
The NYSTCE Secondary Assessment of Teaching Skills Exam will be composed of 80 multiple choice questions and one subjective question within the evaluative scale range of 300, out of which 220 will be the minimum marks required for the qualification. Candidate must answer as many questions as they can as there is no negative marking for wrong answer and if ever he/ she fails to reach 220 marks, he/ she can appear again for the next assessment after the lapse of 30 days.

The following topics are:
• 38% Assessment and Instruction – curriculum development, instructional planning, classroom environment, use of technology for learning, communication practices, assessment and instruction for students
• 25% Student Development – student learning and literacy development, students witH disabilities, factors influencing student development, human development
• 17% Professional environment – rights and responsibilities of the educator, role of education in state, productivity
*20% weightings in the exam will be from a constructive response query of the topic “assessment and instruction”
