NYSTCE Health Education Examination Overview

The New York State Education Board came up with an assessment for training health educators into professionalism – the NYSTCE Health Education exam. This will test the educators’ ability and skill in imparting knowledge to students regarding latest healthcare products and services, safe environment and also nutritional development that could be detailed when it comes to physical fitness. If qualified, the examinee will receive the said certification by registering via internet, mail or telephone. However, telephone service is only open during a specific period.

NYSTCE Health Education Exam – Admission

The NYSTCE Health Education exam consists of two phases; the initial and professional phase, and each has different requirements. For the initial phase, a baccalaureate degree from national or state university must be held by the examinee. The candidate must be able to attain passing marks in Liberal Arts and Science Test and Assistant of Teaching Skills Exam also other than the NYSCTE Health Education Exam. For the professional phase, he/she must be master degree holder with three-year experience of teaching in the field and be a Speech and Language Disability Test passer as well.

NYSTCE Health Education Exam – Presentation

The NYSTCE Health Education Exam will be composed of 90 multiple choice, each supplemented with four selections within the evaluative scale of 300, out of which 220 will be the minimum marks required for the qualification. Candidate must finish the exam within 240 minutes and he/she must answer as many questions as they can as there is no negative marking for wrong answer. If the examinee fails, the examinee must be present again for the next examination after the lapse of 30 days.

36% Personal Health and Finance – physical fitness, good nutrition, human growth and development, mental and emotional health, diseases and disorders

22% Resources Required for Health Maintenance – healthcare products and services, lifestyle, influence of media and culture on lifestyle, community health services

18% Safe and Healthy Environment – emergency and first aid, safe environment, conflict resolution and mediation, community health, effect of drugs on health

14% Health Education Program – school health educational programs, community needs for health education, role of health educator

10% weightings in the NYSTCE Health Education exam will be from a subjective question on the topic “Resources of Maintaining Health Education”
