FTCE Florida Speech 6-12 Examination Information
Speech is one of the most important skills ever used by mankind. Standing on both the beginning and pinnacle of human communication, speech has paved the way for the future of humans. To identify such educators, the Florida Department of Education conducts the FTCE Speech Exam to grant passers certifications that will allow them to teach in Florida as a Speech Educator.
Applicants can choose either a professional or a temporary certification. Professional certifications are long-term certifications which are valid for five academic years and may be renewed. Temporary certifications are valid for only three academic years and cannot be renewed. Temporary certification holders may only continue if they apply for a professional certification.
Eligibility Requirements for FTCE Speech Exam
Applicants may only take the FTCE Speech Exam once certain conditions presented by the FLDOE are met. For both certifications, applicants must hold a bachelor degree, major in Speech. Professional certifications require the applicant to also hold a master’s degree in the subject while temporary certifications require the applicant to have a GPA of 2.5.
Applicants must also present a fingerprint report to the education board to identify any past criminal record. Applicants will not be allowed to take the exam without the due process of these files.
Examination Format of FTCE Speech Test
The FTCE Speech Exam tests the candidates’ efficiency to teach students various topics on speech. The exam tests on these skills which are required for teaching:
• Foundations of Efficient communication
• Pretext of efficient communication
• Hearing skills
• Research skills
• Message development for public oration
• Delivering message in public
• Events and techniques
• Instructions techniques
The exam is divided into two subtests. In the first subtest, the candidate is given 90 multiple choice questions to answer within 90 minutes. In the second subtest, candidate is required to prepare a presentation on a given topic in 45 minutes. If a candidate fails on a particular subtest, he can request to take the subtest again.
Examinees must prepare their minds and hearts so as to succeed in the test. A study guide will greatly improve the performance of an applicant and it would be definitely possible to pass the exam on the first attempt.
