CSET Home Economics Exam Study Guide


The California Subject Examination for Teachers (CSET) is an exam presented by the Commission on Teacher Credentialing (CTC) for educators who wish to teach in the state of California officially. The Home Economics exam measures aspiring educators’ knowledge and understanding on the subject matter hence candidates should study well for the exam. The CSET Home Economics Exam contains three subtests with a mix of multiple-choice and constructive-response questions.

If an applicant fails to pass any of the subtests, then he/she may retake the exam only after a period of 45 days. Score of the CSET Biology/Life Science Exam are valid for a period of 5 years.

Format of CSET Home Economics Exam


The CSET Home Economics Exam challenges the candidate’s knowledge and capabilities on all topics on the subject area. The exam includes topics such as: family development, hospitality and family health, clothing and textile, interior designing and management, economic system, personal relationships, furnishings, fabrics and apparel construction, preparing food and managing family resources, interpersonal bonding, parenting, nutritional science and energy, and personal finances.

The exam has both multiple-choice questions and subjective answers hence examinees should have a decent knowledge base as well as good writing skills. Examinees should aim to answer as concise yet precise as possible; so as to gain a high marking score from the special educator from the board marking the exam. The exam has a total of 300 points out of which 220 marks are needed to be able to pass the exam and qualify for a certification.
