NYSTCE Mathematics Examination Overview
NYSTCE Mathematics Exam is a test which a candidate needs to appear for getting the certification in teaching Mathematics forte. This exam is conducted and administered by the New York State Educators Board to provide the examinees a chance to test their skills, revise areas they are not sure about and address any gaps in their knowledge. Candidate clearing the examination with good marks gets the permission to work as Mathematics teacher in New York.
NYSTCE Mathematics Exam – Admission
The NYSTCE Mathematics Exam assesses the teachers’ ability in order to orient and standardize the quality of education in the said area. This is composed of the initial phase as the entry level and the professional phase. Qualifications include a bachelor degree from national or state university along with fulfillment of guidelines prepared by the education board should be followed and a fingerprinting clearance will be conducted during examination. He/ She should also be a permanent citizen of the United States. Accreditation will then be given to the candidate who will get passing marks in the NYSTCE Mathematics Exam.
NYSTCE Mathematics Exam – Presentation
NYSCTE Mathematics Exam includes only close ended questions. There will be 90 multiple choice questions (4 choices each) and a subjective question to be totally completed within 4 hours and will be then scaled in a range from 100 to 300, in which 220 is the least score to be qualified. A good time management is a must during the exam and if the examinee fails to reach the passing score, he/she can appear again in the same exam after the lapse of 30 days from the first exam.
NYSTCE Mathematics Exam – Course Outline
The following topics are discussed:
• 26% Algebra – polynomials, quadratic functions, coordinate geometry, exponential and logarithmic functions, probability, matrices and basic to advanced trigonometry
• 17% Measurement and Geometry – coordinate geometry, principles of measurement, transformational geometry and vector, axiomatic geometr
• 17% Calculus and Trigonometry – problem solving methods, trigonometric functions, calculus, geometric representation
• 17% Probability and Statistics – data analysis, summation, series, sequence, discrete mathematics, probability and their applications
• 13% Mathematical reasoning – mathematical concepts and symbols, mathematical modeling, inductive, deductive and symbolic logic
*10% weightings in the exam will be from the constructed response query of the topic “Algebra” and should be crafted in a clear, artistic and concise manner
