NYSTCE Agriculture Examination Overview
NYSTCE or New York State Teacher Certification Examinations evaluates the examinee’s skill or proficiency when it comes to giving lessons in New York Public Schools. Adequacy of the examinee’s knowledge will be assessed in the related subject in consideration of the education board’s policy and standards. One of the requirements to qualify in the exam as an agriculture teacher is to obtain certifications from the administrative board.
NYSTCE Agriculture Exam - Admission
The NYSTCE Agriculture Exam assesses the teachers’ ability in order to orient and standardize the quality of education in the area of agriculture. Qualifications include a bachelor degree from national or state university along with preparation in general core subjects and content core subjects in baccalaureate program. Guidelines prepared by the education board should be followed and a fingerprinting clearance will be conducted on the NYSTCE Agriculture Exam. NYSTCE certification will then be given to the candidate who will get passing marks in the NYSTCE Agriculture Exam, NYSTCE Assessment of Teaching Assistant Skills Exam and Liberal Arts and Science Exam.
NYSTCE Agriculture Exam - Presentation
The NYSTCE Agriculture Exam will be composed of 90 multiple choice questions and one subjective question within the evaluative scale range of 100-300, out of which 220 will be the minimum marks required for the qualification. Candidate must answer as many questions as they can as there is no negative marking for wrong answer.
NYSTCE Agriculture Exam - Course Outline
The following topics include:
20% Plant Physiology – plant classification, soil knowledge, production, reproduction management etc.
16% Environment and agriculture – wildlife, natural resources, forest conservation, ecological study, etc.
16% Mechanics and technology in agriculture – technology, biotechnology, genetic engineering, etc.
13% Managing business, economics and marketing – agricultural business, entrepreneurship, marketing, principles and practices
12% Opportunities in agriculture sector – basics of agriculture, policies and procedures, opportunities and requirements etc.
*10% weightings in the exam will be from the subjective query of the topic “agricultural education and opportunities”
